Wow, what a small world. I'm not a "Girdner" by birth, my husband is
Douglas Robert Girdner, born in Portland April 21st 1963, son of Stanley
(Tom) Girdner, born in Portland Oregon, May 17, 1918. He was the only
child of Albert (Townley) Girdner who was orginally from Cleveland Ohio.
Albert's Father "James" was orig. from Tennesse. Albert also had two
sisters Dorthia and Elsie...that's about all I know. There was some
rather tragic history in my Husbands family. His Father Stanley (Tom)
Girdner was a only child and his Mother Agnes died very early in life,
she was only 31....and when she married Albert he was much older. Her son
Stanley married and fathered two sons and one daugher and died in his
later 60's of a lung disease. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but
heard nothing but wonderful things about him and that my husband is very
much like him. So the blood-line of the Girdner's almost ceased, until we
had our Daugher Ashlee Girdner in 1986....Doug's other blood siblings
have not had children yet. My Husband one blood brother, Milton Girdner
lives in Washington DC. The other Girdner you might find in Oregon is
Randy, my husband's half-brother, and altough Stanley adopted him at a
very young age he was not his blood son. Randy also has two son's with
the Girdner name, Michael and Nicholas...again not of blood origin. The
pictures I've seen of Stanley (Tom) showed deep-set greeen eyes, Stanley
was a fighter pilot in the war and although small in stature very strong
and quite a strong-willed man. He was a voracious reader and loved his
children very much. He was a manager for Portland Cold Ice Storage for
most of his life. He then became very sick with a lung disease and
convelesed for a few years and died on my Husband's 13th Birthday. My
Husband has his beautiful green eyes and his ways with tools and
handy-work. Doug is a larger man than his father but his kind patient
ways are very much like his Fathers.
I know that there is another Doug Girdner in Oregon becasue his picture
was on the front page of our newpaper on Christmas day 3 years ago,
showing his ranch and the big snow storm. My Husband called him and they
had a nice chat. We thought that was quite a strange becasue you just
don't hear about the "Girdner's very much as you well know.
My Husband and I are very interested in passing on knowledge and the
history of the Girdner's to our Daughter Ashlee and would love to be
involved with any events in the future. My Mother-In-Law, Lorraine
Girdner is also interested in attending any reunions and also would like
futher information about the Girdner line.
Thank you so much for your letter and I hope you and your family have a
wonderful Thanksgiving....and I hope you and I can correspond in regards
to further "exchanges" of information about the "Family"...
Mrs. Sandra L. Girdner
Wife of Douglas R. Girdner
