Hello.
I just got e-mail and wanted to use my surname which is Girdner and
foundyou
in the AOL system.
Hello from Nancy Girdner.
I am not sure if this is e-mail or computer etiquette but I thought
Iwould give it a try.
I just got my first e-mail account and wanted to go by my surname whichis
Girdner.
I found your name in the AOL system and was very curious as I only
knowGirdner relatives
who are directly related to me from my paternal Grandparents.
I wondered just how we are related as the Girdner name is not very common.
My name is Nancy Girdner and I live in Saratoga, California, which is,
incase
you don't know, a suburb of San Jose, California and about an hour
southof San Francisco.
I am a graduate student at San Jose State University presently.
My paternal grandfather was Walter Samuel Girdner. He was born
inMissouri in the very late 1800s.
I'd have to get the Girdner family sketch to find out exact dates.
He had several brothers and sisters, all of which have passed away.
Walter Girdner married Laurel Roat from Iowa and started their family
inIowa
and finished in California.
Walter Samuel Girdner's
Son #1:
The first born son was William Issac Girdner who is now 80.
(Uncle Bill) He resides in Carmel, Calif.
He was at one time 5th man from the top at Hewlett-Packard.
He was an engineer all his life. He has 2 daughters (My cousins.)
#1. Sheri Girdner who lives near Portland Oregon. Sheri is not
marriednor does she have any children.
#2. Jacqueline Girdner who lives in Mill Valley California. She has
beenmarried to Greg Booi for 18 years
but has kept the Girdner surname.
Jaki was a lawyer but now she writes murder mysteries. You can see
herbooks in almost
every bookstore around the country. She has become pretty well known
as a mystery writer. (They have no children.)
Son #2:
Jerry Herman Girdner born in Allerton, Iowa. (This is my dad.)
He graduated from Stanford University and became a college dean as wellas
a
college assistant superintendent. He presently lives with my mom Helen.
they have been married 56 years. He was born Jan 1, 1918 in
Allerton,Iowa.
He has Alzheimer's Disease now and is also a stroke victim. This may
bethe first known case on the Girdner side of my family of
Alzheimer'sDisease. This is something my brother and I had been concerned
with athere is so little family medical history. We were worried that it
couldbe genetic.)
Any information on this subject would be appreciated. I would be glad
tohelp you also on other medical knowlege I may have that you may
beinterested in.
Jerry has 2 children:
Myself and my brother James Booth Girdner of Modesto, California.
Neither my brother nor I have children. There are a few Girdners
inModesto but none directly related.
Son # 3
Wayne Walter Girdner:
He taught high school in Pasadena until retirement. Presently he has
afarm in Ramona, Calif.
He has 3 children.
Billy (William) Girdner of Los Angles.
Bill was a lawyer then wrote for the
Boston Globe and now has his own business.
(No wife. No children)
Marrianne Girdner. She is a high school teacher in the L. A.
area(Marianne has 2 children but
they carry different surnames.)
Claudette Girdner Wilson. She is a lawyer in San Diego.
She married her high school sweetheart and they have twins, a boy and
agirl who do not carry the Girdner Surname.
Daughter #1 Ruth Girdner O'Conner Prater. Died in the 1960s of leukemiain
her 30s.
Lived in Huntsville, Alabama. Had 4 children.
Laurie, and Van O'Conner. Jan and John Prater (Twins).
Daughter # 2
Carol Girdner Straus. Lives in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Sons Rick Straus (Santa Cruz) Rick has 2 sons and Rob Straus lives
nearSan Francisco. Rob is not married and has no children.
About 10 to 15 years ago our family got a letter from a James Girdner
whowas planning
a Girdner family reunion in Bramson, Missouri. We did not attend due
todistance.
Evidently they were going to figure out which Girdner clan we were fromas
there
were 4 original Girdner sons (Ones name was Conrad) and they were goingto
organize everyone
according to which of the 4 original Girdner sons we each were
closestrelated to.
I have access to a Girdner sketch written over 100 years ago by a
Girdnerwho was
about 80 at the time he wrote it.
I know I have German, Dutch, French. Irish, English, and Scots in me.
I know that I have mainly German from the Girdner side of the family.
The sketch says that at the time the Girdners emigrated to America their
last name was Goertner and to make it sound "more Americanized"
it was changed to Girdner.
If you are interested I will go to my parents' home and get a copy of
thesketch.
This is just a brief letter. If you are interested in sharing someGirdner
information I will talk to my aunt and my uncle and see what Ican find
out.
Sincerely,
Nancy Susan Girdner
